In Feng Shui, when we talk about health, this covers many areas beyond just the physical body. Feng Shui for Health includes emotional and mental well-being which addresses
confidence, peace of mind, balance, stress and being grounded. This is accomplished in many ways and also depends upon the type of Feng Shui you practice.
When using the Bagua, which is common in America, you can enhance the area that is in the center of the left side of your home as you enter from the front door with wood items, the color green and things
that represent health to you, including exercise, diet and more. Taking one step closer to traditional Feng Shui, you can apply the same enhancements just
mentioned to the West section of your home, when dividing the home into 8 equal pie-slice segments.
In Flying Star Feng Shui, one of the older and more commonly practiced Feng Shui methods used in China, where Feng Shui originated, the enhancements will be very specific to the home. Enhancements will be determined based on an analysis by a professional consultant, which will
generate an energetic chart for the home. These specific treatments for your home are very powerful. The results are usually quick and sustaining. Here a few general tips you can use in the meantime.
Clutter Clearing out Clutter is one of the best ways to lift energy, spirits and health. Much of our physical well-being is a result of our
mental or emotional state. When we live in a home full of clutter it is like carrying extra weight around on our body. Clear the clutter and those unwanted pounds
may just drop off, too. And at the very least, the clutter-free environment you live in will lead to a clutter-free mind that will likely become motivated
to exercise or change eating habits.
Plants - real and artificial. In Feng Shui there are 5 Elements; Wood is the element most commonly associated with Health. No surprise then, that
having healthy, vibrant plants around your home or office can have an impact on the health of the occupants. The key words being "healthy and vibrant" because if they are
not, those plants could cause more harm than good. Artificial plants must give the sense of being real; meaning they look like they are real when you first see them,
even if when you get closer they are clearly artificial. That's ok, it still gives the energy vibration of having a healthy plant around.
Dried flowers, driftwood and other items that were once living but are no longer, can be a big drain of energy and health. Treated wood such as furniture, picture frames,
cabinets, etc are fine. They are treated and preserved so they still look vibrant. Dried plants and drift wood continue to dry out, discolor and sometimes
even rot so these are continually draining Chi - Live Energy. If you have dried flowers, replace them every few months when they begin to fade or get dusty or
brittle. And be sure to keep your plants, both real and artificial, dust free. Learn more about Flowers and Feng Shui
Color Just as Wood represents Health, so do the colors green and blue. Forest green, Emerald green and other deep, lush shades of green
can be the most impactful on health. Cooler greens such as mint or seafoam can have a draining affect on health so use them sparingly. Dark blues and blue-green
shades can also be supportive for health. One common principle of Feng Shui is "live with what you love" so be sure you select a color that you like. If you
don't like green, don't add it to your home just because it may help your health because surrounding yourself with a color that you don't like can be more
draining than uplifting.
Sleep One of the most simple ways to improve your health is to improve your sleep. Whether than means increasing the amount of time you sleep or even better
increasing the quality of sleep that you are getting. Try to go to bed and wake up at about the same time every day, whether you are going to work or not; whether you
are going out on the town or staying in for the night. The consistency of sleep will ensure a better quality of sleep.
Mirrors in the bedroom, or other reflective
objects, such as the glass on a framed picture hanging on the wall, can impair sleep. Mirrors circulate energy so if its a large mirror it may give the vibration
of a large party going on in your bedroom that you are trying to sleep through. Remove all mirrors and if that is not possible, cover them while you sleep. This
goes for those convenient mirrored wardrobe closet doors, too. Hang some curtains in front of them that can be opened during the day when you want to use
the mirror and closed at night when you want to sleep.
Bedroom Storing items under the bed sends energy to you. Best to keep this area clear so air and thus Chi can circulate freely and energize you
while you are sleeping. If you insist on storing things under your bed, try to store only quiet or calm items, such as extra bedding and off-season clothing.
Avoid storing athletic equipment or clothing under your bed. Other things to avoid here are your collection of action videos, shoes and books. These things
will all keep your mind and your body awake. Finally, keep your bedroom for sleeping and romance only, i.e. no desks, bookcases, treadmills or other active
items. As kids in our parent's home, our bedrooms were actually multi-purpose rooms. It's time to out-grow that mind-set and give yourself the gift of a
bedroom that is a bedroom only.
Pay attention to anything in your home that you say, or think you'd get rid of if you were healthy, in better shape, more happy, less stressed, etc. Don't
ignore those thoughts and feelings, pay attention to what they are telling you and consider that if you release them, perhaps that health, fisique or joy will
