Below are some of the most frequently asked questions people have when they are considering having a Professional Feng Shui Consulation. If you don't find your question, use the form on our Contact page or call us at 818-282-4282.
How long is a consultation?
A basic consultation takes approximately two hours. If your home is over 2,500sf or is multiple stories, it may take longer.
I just have a small apartment/office, do I need a two-hour consultation?
With a small residence it may be possible to complete a consultation in less than two hours, but plan on at least 90 minutes. Clients often need time to get acclamated to the process and start thinking of all the questions they want answered.
What do I need to do to prepare my home for a consultation?
Nothing. It's not necessary to do anything to prepare for the consultation. In fact, its best if you don't do extra cleaning
or straightening up; you'll get a more accurate consultation if Helen sees your home just as you usually see it and live in it. And if you feel you have a
clutter problem, the consultation will show you how that impacts your life and as a result you will most likely be motivated to tackle the clutter after the
consultation.
I've read books and researched on the internet; would I still benefit from having a personal consultation?
A lot of the books written on Feng Shui are not traditional Feng Shui. Most of them make use of the 9-Square Bagua which is a
more Western version of Feng Shui. It is a good place to start and is relatively easy to apply yourself. Traditional Feng Shui, which Helen practices, takes
years to learn and unless someone has formal training in its techniques and applications, its not likely they can apply it themselves.
How often should I have a consultation?
For most people, once a year should be fine. If you move, or experience a major life change such as marriage, divorce, having
a child, or making a career change, then we recommend that you have a consultation as soon as possible so that you can update your home in support of your
new situation and your new goals. If your home is still living in your past situation, you could experience unnecessary challenges.
Do you move my things around for me during the consultation?
The consultation time is best utilized discussing numerous possible enhancements. It's best that clients implement their own enhancements at their own pace, starting with a few as soon as possible and gradually completing the others. Many clients are inspired to do a few minor things during the consultation such as take down a picture or move a small item, and that is wonderful.
My friend had a consultation, can't I just use the information she was given and do my own house?
No. Each consultation is personalized and the enhancements are specific to the individual, their areas of interest and
the physical structure they live in. There may be a few general comments that you could implement but over all the information your friend receives could
actually cause negative impacts if you try to apply them to your home.
Will a consultation cover my entire house or just one or two rooms?
Traditional Feng Shui goes by directions (North, Northeast, East, etc.) it does not necessarily go by room because a room may fall into more than
one of these directional segments and it must be determined how those energies interact together in that room. It's very difficult, if not impossible, to properly Feng Shui just part of a home.
It would be similar to a doctor examining you but only telling you part of his findings. The entire property needs to be charted so be able to look at
any one part of the home, so its best to discuss the entire chart rather than just part of it.
Will Feng Shui conflict with my religious beliefs?
No. Feng Shui is based on the 5-Element Theory which is also utilized in Acupuncture. It is not religious in nature so it
will not conflict with or diminish your religious beliefs. It is really about comfort, safety and creating a calm, soothing environment.
